Kitara replaces strings with a touchscreen for a very unique guitar

Being an avid Rock Band player, I’ve made some pretty awesome sounds from a plastic guitar. Thanks to the latest version of the game (and a special controller) the game is actually teaching me to play a real guitar. This alone has given me a good deal of respect for the plastic instrument, and it seems that others have taken a notice as well. One company has created their own digital guitar complete with touchscreen, which is meant to be played as a real instrument.

I have to say, I think that as a guitar, this would be a terrible thing to play. The main reason being touchscreen. Much like I am mostly unable to type on a touchscreen without looking, there’s no way you’d be able to play this thing without spending the entire time staring at the screen. However, this instrument is no regular guitar.

As you can see in the video, you can do so much more with the sound. Depending on the settings, you can move your fingers along the screen to create some very unique sounds. Between tapping, strumming and sliding your fingers, this instrument sounds more like something you’d hear coming from a DJ in a club than a guitarist on stage. If you’re looking for a brand new sound, then this $850 Kitara might be exactly what you need.
