VOIP calls come to Google Voice (sort of)

I love my Google Voice account. Being able to hand out one number and know that it will ring any phone I need can be rather useful. Not to mention the ability to block numbers with the greatest of ease. One thing I’ve been hoping to see is the ability to use the number in a VOIP setting, a la Skype. Well it seems that I may get that very thing.

It would seem that Google is working on implementing a VOIP solution, as it is now possible to make such calls from their service. Granted, it takes a little legwork to make it happen, but the necessary bits are there. If you have a SIP account, you can use [email protected] to place calls. Since the sip subdomain was not working before (and still isn’t for some users) this tells us that this is something they are working on rolling out in the near future.
