I love my Google Voice service. I can’t seem to say that enough. I’ve been using the services since before it was acquired by the search giant a few years back, and can’t imagine how I got along without it before. It’s taken a while to get any sort of real integration with smartphones such as the iPhone and Android platforms, but today we’re seeing a huge leap forward, thanks to an initiative between Google and Sprint.
Starting today, anyone with a Sprint phone can use their Google Voice number to make outgoing calls, without having to use a special app. In fact, you aren’t even required to have a smartphone for this to work. You can also choose to have your Sprint number act as a Google Voice number, with all of the handy features such as transcribed voicemail, and having calls ring to other phones. I wonder if we’ll see this sort of integration on other networks in the future.
