If you have a couple of desktops, a laptop, a smartphone and perhaps a tablet, it can be rather difficult to keep track of all of your files between them. There’s nothing like whipping out your laptop, only to realize that the important file you were looking for resides on your desktop. I do my best to prevent this issue by keeping the majority of my files on a file server, which I can ftp into from anywhere. Such a thing can be difficult to setup, but the folks over at Pogoplug want to turn almost any computer into a file server.
Their new software offering, simply dubbed ‘Pogoplug Beta’ is supposed to be an easy way to share files on a computer with other computers and devices, regardless of where they are. This would allow you to stream music to your iPhone, movies to your iPad, and files to your laptop. You’ll even be able to print to your home printer from almost any device. Currently the software is in beta, with no clear timeframe for it to go live. The Pogoplug site still has the beta signup form, but at the time of writing, they don’t actually appear to be taking any further applications.
Zumodrive does this quite well too: http://zumo.cc/dr/dir/DNeMjExMG
