Samsung NC215S Solar Powered Netbook – are we nearing perpetual computing?

Samsungnc215s

I want some of whatever mojo juice the designers at Samsung are drinking. Not content with delivering our favourite mobile phone to the world, the Korean giant has now announced a v cool new product, the Samsung NC215S Solar Powered Netbook.

The 10.1 inch Atom powered computer will feature a 1.66GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and a bunch of solar cells built into the lid. This array will apparently power the device for 1 hour for every 2 hours of sunlight charging. With a predicted fully charged run time of 14 hours, this could mean you’ll never have to hit a power socket again. Which could be rather useful for road warriors.

The netbook is scheduled to arrive in the US next month with a suggested retail price of $399.00.

So I guess you strap to the roof of your car, eh?

    • Strangely enough Ron, sunlight can travel through windscreen glass. :)
