You’ve got to admire the guys at game maker Valve. They’ve just declared that the classic and extremely popular online game Team Fortress 2 will be free of charge from now on. For ever. No ads, no pay to win, just free. It’s deucedly clever.
For one thing, the title, although massively popular (i.e. part of the most beloved game franchise of all time) is getting a bit old now, so what better way to give it a flip and introduce it to a bunch of new players? But perhaps more importantly, this move introduces a whole new population to the Steam universe, a big fat pipe full of juicy game marketing that feeds directly onto potential purchaser’s desktops. Marketing man’s dream.
Anyhow, let’s not be churlish, for those of you who remember what fun it was to spool up your very large machine gun, or rocket jump your way over spies, here’s your chance to live it all again. For free. Enjoy.
