Tatooine Sand Wristwatch looks cool, and helps save the Lars homestead

One of the things I love about the original Star Wars movies is just how much effort was put into creating realistic and believable sets and props. Back in the 70’s, they couldn’t just place actors in front of a green screen and film everything that way. To create the world of Tattooine, Lucas traveled to Tunisia and ventured out into the desert. Here he built the Lars homestead, which to this day still stands. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as though it will continue to stand for much longer, as it has been neglected and the forces of nature have taken their toll.

A group of fans have banded together to save this iconic building, and are working to get funding for it through Kickstarter. Thankfully, they have already reached their goal, but the more help they get, the better. What’s great is that if you pledge $77 you’ll receive an official Lars Expedition Wristwatch, which will contain sand from the location. The watches are made from solid 304 stainless steel cases and, Seiko quartz mechanism and machined-brass display capsules. Not only will you receive an awesome watch, but you’ll have helped save a piece of sci-fi history.
