Have you ever watched two people play a game of speed chess? It’s a rather fascinating spectacle, as they make moves in a very short amount of time, rather than carefully pondering each move. The time is generally kept with a chess clock, which each person presses when they finish their turn. If this sounds like your kind of fun, but you don’t want to invest in a special clock, why not check out this Ice Speed Chess Set.
Rather than depending on a clock to keep track of your time, the room’s temperature will take care of that. This set is actually just a pair of silicone ice molds. When filled with water and frozen, you’ll get two sets of game pieces. Well, two half-sets, since the molds are only made for half pieces, rather than full ones. The only thing you’re going to need to supply is the chess board, and probably some towels. You might also want to use a bit of food coloring to tell the pieces apart. I’d say that for $13, this would be fun on a boring afternoon.
