SmartLid changes color to let you know when your coffee is cool enough to drink

How many times have you gone to take a sip of your coffee, only to realize that it was way too hot? If you drink coffee on any sort of a regular basis, then this is probably a common issue. If you’re drinking out of a mug, this isn’t such a big deal, as you can really feel the heat coming from the liquid. It’s not quite the same in a to-go cup. You might be able to get an idea from the outside of the cup, but even that isn’t always a good indicator. Well soon, you might need only to glance at your lid to find out if it’s too hot.

The SmartLid goes on your coffee cup, just like any other plastic lid. The difference is that as soon as it snaps on, it turns from dark brown to bright red. Once the liquid is cool enough to drink, it will turn back to its original color. This could save burnt tongues everywhere, if it catches on. They are working on production for export, so coffee shops can’t order mass quantities just yet. You can, however, pick up a dozen lids (with corresponding cups) in a sample pack for $9.
