They say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. If you’ve ever seen the dumpsters around a college campus during move-out week, you’ll know that it’s the truth. A more sanitary way to prove the old saying, and get yourself some free treasure, is by checking out places like Craigslist and Freecycle. Both allow people to post items that they’d like to give away (the former also lets you list times for sale), and are great resources for finding free goods. A new site called treshr is trying to help you sift through those sites a little easier.
Essentially what treshr does is scour the “free” listings from both Craigslist and Freecycle, then overlays them onto Google Maps. This allows you to search for items in a specific area, and see roughly where each thing is located. Granted, this only works if the person puts their address or neighborhood on the listing. Currently it is only available in a few places like NYC area, Philadelphia, DC, and San Francisco, but they are working to expand in the future.
