Fiks: Reflective Rim-Strips light up your bike wheels

For many of us, getting around is a bit of a chore. Although we love riding our bikes, it can be a bit scary if you must be out at night. Most bicycles have a reflective attachment in the back, and a light in the front, but if you’re going through an intersection at night, someone can smack into the side of you without knowing you’re there. Sure, you could get some additional lights and mount them on the sides, but they can fall off, and need batteries from time to time.

This is why the new project from Kickstarter called Fiks is such an ingenious way to save your skin if you bike at night. These are Reflective Rim-Strips that will reflect the same amount of light back at whatever is shining on you. These strips come in six computer cut sections for a set, and will only fit on a 6mm or 1/4 rim and must be placed in between the braking surface and the spokes. If you’re interested in having a set or two of your own, one set will cost $6, while four sets will cost $25, which will cover two wheels.

In the Netherlands we are already obliged by law to have sideways reflective material on our bicycles. That can be fitted to the spokes of the wheel but in general bicycles have tyres with a reflective strip on each side and it's very difficult to find any tyres in the shops that do not have this reflective strip.
