Virtual Router turns your PC into a wireless router [Daily Freeware]

Have you ever found yourself needing to share an internet connection wirelessly with other computers and devices? You’d think that if you have a wired connection with internet coming in, that you’d be able to broadcast it wirelessly to a laptop, tablet, or phone. However, this isn’t a feature that’s natively supported on Windows. Thankfully there’s Virtual Router, which can do exactly what you need.

Once you install this free program, you can take any internet connection coming in (wired, or wireless) and transmit it securely. You’ll be given the option to set your network name, and password, and then you can broadcast it. You won’t have the ability to make it an open network, as you’re forced to use WPA2 encryption (which really isn’t a bad thing). It’s a simple piece of software that can make your life a lot easier in certain situations.

  • after many windows crash with virtual router i've found an easier solution with another free program: http://www.onix.it/index.php?pageid=mphs

  • it’s a windows 7 feature called “hosted network”.
you can start it with “netsh wlan set hostednetwork” in the command prompt.
AND something like this “virtual router manager” is included in the Microsoft Windows SDK as a sample (single .exe without install.).
