The pole is made of 100% aluminum, and encases a 304 stainless steel spring that will flex gently with the wind. Pockets in its canopy covering also give support for the ribbing which will let this umbrella withstand winds up to 8 mph. While this is a really awesome idea, I highly doubt that it is worth its $300 price tag. It would be better to just take down the umbrella whenever it starts getting windy.
