Really, when it comes right down to it, what’s the point in taking fancy vacations to exotic locations if you can’t share the experience with other people? In the ancient past we would sit our victims down in darkened rooms and bore them rigid with 4 hour photo slideshows, complete with droning commentary and obscure jokes that no-one understands.
That’s all in the past. We’re in the hip, digital 21st century now, peeps, so we can do things properly. Take this Mobily Trip website and freeware program hybrid for instance. Load it onto your smartphone before you leave on your trip, and once there, use it with your camera to instantly log your movements as they happen. No more hunting around for photo kiosks, or hassling with email messages. All you need is a WiFi connection (if you don’t want to run up massive data roaming charges) and you’re set.
There’s nothing super clever about the software, but the way it’s been put together makes the process of logging sights and thoughts dead easy. Once you take the photo and tag it with some comments, it’s automatically geo-referenced to show the exact location, as well as time and date, and is uploaded via WiFi when you’re back at your base.
All of the photos are then collated into a cool looking travel page which incorporates an easy to follow map, a clickable itinerary timeline and the photos displayed alongside which you can view as a slideshow or via a manual process. It’s a great way to track your loved ones as they encounter far off places and people. The free software is available for both iPhone and Android and the website accounts are free of charge.
