Lubricheck will let you know if you can put off an oil change or not

If you own a car, you’ve likely had to deal with an oil change once or twice. For those of us who are constantly driving from place to place, this is normally a more frequent ordeal. It does need to be done every now and then, but what happens when we go over the allotted mileage? How can we tell when we should change our oil without having to pay someone else to check it?

The Lubricheck has dubbed itself the blood test for your car. It will check your oil for coolant, metal particles, and water that may have made their way in. This also checks the acidity of your oil, as it may start to pit your engine, which is not a good thing. This will save you money, but you’ll have to put out a little money to get one. It’s not available just yet, but will cost about $40, which is what an oil change would normally cost.

  • It’s kind of sad that this kind of thing isn’t already built in into cars – but the cost saving is heavy on the car hardware (they easily toss out something for $1 if they can, on the car that costs $30000).

On the other hand, most modern cars actually calculate the “age” of the motor oil depending on a number of factors (rpm, temperature, how you use the engine) in the engine control computer, so it can light the lamp when it thinks it’s getting too old. (I’ve been working on/with those algorithms.) Of course with a margin, so you might still want to use this thing…
