ACTA returns via a backdoor trade treaty between Canada and the EU

Literally days after ACTA was decisively struck down by the European parliament, the entertainment industry is back with another attempt to ramroad this ugly legislation into force, but this time using an upcoming trade agreement between Canada and the EU as the vehicle. A nice little underhand backdoor approach.

The new trade agreement, CETA (Canada EU Trade Agreement), is in the final stages of negotiation, and miraculously it now contains a bunch of ACTA terms in full. It even specifically refers to ACTA. Here’s some more information about the CETA ACTA backdoor initiative, along with a useful but distressing comparison table of just how they’re going about this skullduggery. These people really are slimeballs, arent’ they? Maybe time for another citizen mobilization effort? Sigh.
