UV Wristbands will tell you when you’ve had too much fun in the sun

When going to the beach for a day, you likely worry about getting a sunburn. While you may want that healthy glow of a tan, you don’t want to have peeling skin for the next week due to too much exposure. The big question is how to know when some exposure is too much.

A Swedish company has made headway to commercialize a paper wristband called Strathclyde. These disposable bands are quite similar to those you would find at a music festival. However, it has an acid-release agent that will take in ultraviolet light which in turn responds to the pH levels on the indicator. The shift will be from yellow to pink, and that will be fair warning to let you know that it’s about time to chill out in the shade. Seeing as there are many different skin types, these bands will come in a variety of different sensitivities. Thankfully we don’t have to worry about summer climate for too much longer, but you can expect these sometime next Spring, and costing under a quarter a piece.
