The Android juggernaut continues to shake the tech world in big ways. While the cell phone fanboys obsess about curves vs square, skin colors and O/S versions, the hard working Google robot is penetrating into ever more areas and applications the world over. At the rate it’s going, it’s hard to see any place where Android won’t eventually integrate, from aircraft to the factory floor. Such is the power of an open platform!
This CM719 Ultra Distance UHF RFID Tablet is a good example of what we mean. The thing features an 800MHz Qualcomm processor, 7 inch capacitive screen, a physical keypad for data entry, an embedded UHF RFID reader with a range of 3 meters, WiFi, GPS, a barcode reader, 3G cellphone and GSM cellular wireless access and a 5 megapixel camera. Oh and the 5600mAh battery is good for a solid 10 days of standby. Now why can’t we have that on a consumer product?

With a spec like this, there’s not much you couldn’t do. Factories, offices, security, not to mention using the little D-Pad as a bit of a gaming tool. OK, so the processor may not be up to much, but we’re going to give it a year or two and then see what comes out of the woodwork.
At the rate it’s going, Android could end up being the single most popular operating system and platform ever, relegating the Windows family (including CE) to a forgotten memory in a few years time.
