Restricted regions are a pain in the rear, especially since it’s usually because of some lawyerly action a million miles away from our need to watch the latest video from our fave artist. Why won’t these guys get it, more views equals more incentive to purchase? Sigh. Anyway, thankfully there’s a growing list of tools you can use to get round the restrictions.
ProxTube is one such tool. It’s a free browser plugin that installs into Firefox or Chrome and uses a proxy server to let you access YouTube videos which have been placed on the dreaded restricted region list.
The plugin works by using a proxy to fool YouTube into thinking you’re in the right region, after which your video should play nicely. Sure there are other ways to do this (we particularly like Unotelly for general global access), but this looks like a neat little product and worth a look.
