TOYin3D turns your cell phone into an instant 3D player

Let’s face it, despite the undoubted success of Avatar, the whole 3D thing has largely become a huge yawn. Mostly because outside of the movie theaters there’s a shortage of players, which means we’re less likely to spend time hunting down 3D content to watch and enjoy. But maybe things are about to change?

The TOYin3D is a small ‘assemble it yourself‘ device which lets you watch 3D content on any portable media player like a phone or media player. The quirkily designed device is basically a box with lenses into which you slot your phone. The lenses do all the heavy lifting, there’s no additional glasses or software needed, and since the product can be folded away and carried around easily, it makes for a great excuse to introduce people to the wonders of 3D content.

The 3D viewer kit is available in a range of weird and wacky colors, and judging by the video, construction is a snap. After that all you’ll need to do is hop along to YouTube, enter in YT3D as your search term, and you’ll be able to enjoy the thousands of 3D video clips and movie trailers etc. We’re not saying it’ll make you a convert, but it should demonstrate a little of what the fuss is about. The product is priced at $22.56/€18.46.
