Memoto – capture your life in a photo every 30 seconds

Have you ever wished you could capture an instant photo of a situation or place, or wanted to remember something special but didn’t have a camera handy? Or perhaps you have an urge to build a running visual scrapbook of your life as you live it, for posterity or simply for laughs? Well this new device from Sweden could be just what you’re looking for.

Memoto is a tiny automatic camera and app that lets you capture and upload images from your every day activities every 30 seconds or on demand. The clever bit, apart from how to cram in GPS, camera and battery chipsets into a tiny wearable package, is the online storage facility which comes with the product.

Capturing this many photos each day will consume a lot of storage space, so the inventors provide a cloud based archive which you upload to via your computer at the end of the day (or when you want). It’s a subscription service, but it takes the hassle out of running out of space with your 1.5 terabytes of photos each year.

They call it a lifeblogging camera, which I think is a nasty clunky word, but the idea is really intriguing. However it does kind of point to a future where we’re all constantly connected and imaging our lives and world, which for some people may be a little scary. And there’s also the massive problem of how to keep up with 2000 photos a day, I don’t know about you, but I have trouble keeping up with the few special occasion snapshots I take right now.

Anyway, this is an idea that could definitely take off, and already their Kickstarter campaign has proved that. The team reached their funding goal in 5 hours, and currently are running at five times their requirement with more than a month to go. It’s proving to be very popular! The key points of the product show why.

* 5 megapixel camera
* GPS logging of images
* Rechargeable battery lasts 2 days
* 4000 photo memory storage space (before needing to upload)
* Encrypted and private photo storage in the cloud on yearly subscription
* Apps for Android and iPhone
* Automatic timeline organization of images
* Multiple attachment options for wearing camera

List price of the product will be $279, but the current Kickstarter price is $249 plus a year’s free storage included. Take a look at the project, it’s very interesting.
