What would you do if your keyboard was, “alive”? Not in the sense that it was going to haul back and bite you every time you tried to type, but that it was something that needed some form of nourishment every now and then. Most of us are probably hoping our keyboards aren’t alive already with all the cheesy poof crumbs, remnants of soda, and who knows what else living amongst those keys. Thankfully, what I’m talking about is much more pleasant.
Robbie Tilton of NYU was taking a course in fabrication when he decided that he wanted to make a piece of technology that wasn’t so cold and lifeless. That’s why he made the Natural Keyboard, and posted how to make it online for others to do the same. It’s a wooden keyboard that has been slathered in moss that you will need to add moisture to every now and then. You will need a laser cutter, 1/32” thick wood, and a good moss recipe, and you can make this bad boy at home. While I don’t know how well this would actually do over long term, it does seem like a neat idea for the tactile aspect.
