There’s something very personal about jewelry, whether it’s the most expensive piece or a bargain from a local flea market. It says something about the wearer, and of course it says a lot about the giver too, in many cases. But unless you have lots of money it’s been difficult to find a way to create your very own style of jewelry, until now that is.

Qolier is an online jewelry design service, where you, the buyer, decides what elements and materials and style you want to buy. Now some people might say this is a tragedy waiting to happen, but we say if you love it, flaunt it. It’s your style, your choice.

The site currently offers necklaces and bracelets, with earrings to come, and there are a variety of styles you can choose from, including beads, clasps and centerpiece pendants. The interface is definitely from a bygone age, but the functionality seems to work fairly well. The idea is you click and add beads and other elements in a linear fashion, and the Undo button top right saves you from wrong choices. It’s ungainly but gets the job done.

The price of the finished article depends on the quantity and quality of the elements you choose, obviously, but the results seem to be reasonably good value. Worth a look.
