Type Fu – excellent tool helps you learn to type for free in your browser

You can’t get away from keyboards. Even the coolest smartphone in existence eventually pops up a keyboard for you to use when entering data. Sure they’re trying to make voice recognition work, but it’s a long way from being as quick and easy as a keypad, so even if you hate typing, you’re stuck with it. Sorry. But how about improving your typing speeds to get revenge on Mr Qwerty?

Type Fu is one of the best typing tutors we’ve seen in a long time, and not only is it free, but it doesn’t require any software downloads or installation. The whole thing runs from within your standard web browser, which is jolly clever. What we like most though, is the depth of features in the product, there’s no cutting corners at all.

You can select from a wide range of options before you get started, including keyboard layout, whether you want audio, what difficulty level to set and so on. You can also switch on speed and accuracy meters, and choose your type of lesson from letters, words, proverbs or quotes. It’s very impressive.

The site also gives you a clear set of reports which show how well you’re progressing in speed and accuracy, as well as a great little chart showing which letters give you problems. I’m lousy at K. Ah well, bacj to the drawing board.
