eBooks are the new hotness. We know this because every so often someone we’re with will break off conversation, dig around in their pocket or bag and whip out a Kindle reader with a triumphant smirk. We usually smile back approvingly and carry on chatting, just to show some cool, you understand.
Almost invariably though, the person in question will not realize they can download totally free books in a wide variety of genres from the Amazon store. We know this of course, because of our aforementioned cool, but for those of you without such, here’s a great way to grab these bargains.
Freebook Sifter is a free web service which acts as a search engine for free Amazon books. Unfortunately it’s only Amazon.com at the moment, but give them time. The nice thing about the service is the fact that they’ve catalogued the books into sections, so you can search for Mysteries & Thrillers or Science Fiction and find some juicy titles for your collection.
We like the way you can filter for language too, and the newsletter and RSS feed subscription services make it easy to get new titles delivered to your inbox when you want (although again it would be great if they could split the subscriptions into genres).
Do be aware that sometimes when you click through to a title, it will not be free at that time, because author’s often offer time limited free titles to drum up interest in their other works.
And don’t forget that you don’t need a Kindle to read these. You can use a standard software eBook reader, or even download Amazon’s own free Kindle software for Android, iPhone, Mac or PC. Definitely a nice service and very useful if you’re a bookworm.
[Another great way to get free Amazon eBooks delivered straight into your email inbox is to use IFTTT.com. We have an alert set up for new books and every day a few pop into our inbox which we can select as desired.]
