Find That File – find files from the Internet, Usenet, .edu resources and more

findthatfile2

Find That File is a new file search engine which doesn’t just track down web based documents and files, but also digs deep into the bowels of what they call the ‘dark web’ to try and deliver even more useful stuff. You might think that Google does this already, but it’s amazing how often other results come up on the Google page when you do a search for a specific file.

For example, if you search for H. G. Wells’ The Time Machine on Google, the first page is all about the movie, Wikipedia entry, YouTube trailers and the like. Not a file download on offer. Do the same search on Find That File, and you immediately get a page full of documents from which to select your desired download.

There are a number of sub-criteria you can select to hone your search even more, such as .PDF, .txt, .doc and more. As you’d expect from a free service like this, there’s a ton of intrusive advertising everywhere and on every page, but if you can navigate your way around the mess, it’s a worthwhile service to bookmark for those odd occasions when you need a file fast.

There are a couple of nice touches. The Related Files feature suggests alternatives you might like, and there’s a Virus Tested switch, to make it easy to select benign files. We’re not quite sure why you might want to add your comments at the bottom of the download page though, but it’s there in case you do. Worth a look.
