Garmin Fenix Hiking GPS Watch – know where you’re going and also where you’ve been

Not everyone spends their life traveling around safe and snug in the plush seats of a car, some daring souls actually venture out and walk, run or bike their way from place to place. And these people sometimes also need help finding their way around, just like motorists. Sure they can use a map, but they get wet and soggy, and maps are not great for logging your trip so you can see where you’ve been.

The Garmin Fenix is billed as ‘the first navigator + ABC adventure watch to include Garmin GPS navigation’ and we’re willing to allow that claim. After all who are we to argue, especially when we have absolutely no idea what an ABC adventure is. Alphabet hiking? A kind of rock climbing scrabble? Anyway, we’re sure it’s jolly skillful and dangerous in equal measures, and it’s great that they’ve now got a watch to go with the excitement.

We do like the idea of strapping a full blown GPS navigation onto your wrist, which can store 1000 waypoints, has a worldwide basemap and an altimeter, barometer and 2 axis compass. If you get lost carrying one of these puppies, then you’re definitely better off slouching on the couch, dude.

The watch also comes with something called TracBack, which aims to get you safely back home after your long trek around the wilds, which will no doubt please the partners of daring adventurers no end. It’s waterproof to 50 meters and costs $399.99.
