ORIGOSafe – removing the danger of distracted driving one locking dock at a time

origosafe

According to the National Safety Council approximately 1.6 million car accidents a year in the US alone are caused by drivers texting and using mobile phones. The young are particularly vulnerable, due to the almost slavish addiction to texting at every opportunity, and apps like Twitter don’t help.

The ORIGOSafe is a locking car dock which prevents the car from being driven unless the phone is in the slot and the handsfree is activated. It also charges the phone at the same time, and copes with multiple phones, so the whole family can register a phone with the dock so the driver is always covered.

Because it also acts as an immobilizer if the phone is not in the dock, it’s also a pretty good anti-theft device, and it allows for music, emergency and Bluetooth functionality while the car is moving. The one limitation seems to be that you need either an iPhone or a Galaxy S3 phone at the moment, but we assume they’ll be adding more popular handset models to the dock compatibility range as time goes on. The product is priced at $279 excluding installation.
