Gamepop wants you to subscribe for mobile games on their console…hmm

There are a plethora of ways to watch shows and play games, but when it comes to mobile games, you’d think they would just stick to your phone. Well, we saw with the OUYA that this is not always the case. Of course, the resounding success they had on Kickstarter means that others are going to try and pursue the same path in a new way. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be better than the original though.

The gamepop console is a $6.99/month subscription that will get you access to hundreds of paid mobile apps. The console and controller normally cost $100, but if you pre-order this month, they’ll toss those in for free. While mobile apps are fun, I can see how playing mobile apps where your Xbox 360 or PS4 games are normally played could get old pretty quickly. The big problem is that you have to lock into a year subscription for this service, and pay an early termination fee if you decide you don’t like it. Mobile games are fun, but it would only be worth it if mobile games are the only ones you play.
