Hands up if you have had a ‘lost phone’ moment sometime in the last three months. Yeah it’s easily done isn’t it, and it’s always at the most awkward moment, just when you’re leaving to catch that flight or pick up the elderly parent or something equally urgent.
What makes it more dangerous is when the phone is set to silent, which means you can’t call it to listen for the ring. Well now there’s a free solution which should get you out of trouble. SMSAlarm is a small freeware utility for Android, which helps you locate your handset even it it’s on silent or low volume.
All you have to do is send an SMS message to your number with a trigger phrase or number and the app will automatically trigger a loud alarm for the length of time you’ve set. It’s a cinch to install and set up, and you get the choice of what trigger code to use, how long the alarm rings for (from 5 seconds up to 2 minutes) and whether the phone should vibrate as well.
The whole app is a mere 53k in size, doesn’t impose any advertising, permission hassles or anything onerous on your handset, and it could well save you a whole heap of time, nervous exhaustion and stress sometime in the future. Why would you not install it?
