It looks like the marketing wonks have realized that handheld games and mobile phones go together rather well, with the result that we’re starting to see a bunch of interesting products hit the market across the globe. Of course the big driver for all this is the massive impact Android has had on games and gaming, but even so it’s great to see people starting to try and pull it all together.
This MUCH i5 Quad Core 3G Games Console Phone is a classic example of the new generation of handheld game console products. Take a 5 inch 1280×720 resolution touchscreen, with a quad core 1.2 GHz processor, 4GB ROM and microSD storage up to 32GB and you’ve got a good starting point.
Throw in dual SIM, dual standby 3G mobile telephony, an 8 megapixel camera, 3500mAh battery, Android 4.2, WiFi, A-GPS navigation and OTG functionality to let you connect external hard drives or accessories and wrap it all up in a full blown console controller format, and you’ve got yourself a hybrid game platform which has access to hundreds of thousands of off the shelf games and can make phone calls as well.
Of course a lot hinges on how well the control surfaces handle the demands of full on gaming, but from looking at the videos, they seem to do a fairly good job all round. The analog thumb controller and D-Pad are certainly located in the right place, and the fact that the product supports PSX emulation is no accident either.
The really happy news is the fact that all this functionality, and let’s face it we’re talking a LARGE amount of goodness rolled into one little box, comes at the rather delicious price of just $219.99. As long as you don’t hold the thing to your ear when making phone calls, you’ll be the envy of your gang, we’re thinking.
To big to shove in my pockets… why do they need to be so wide???
