[UPDATE Nov 29th: this extension is now injecting adware. AVOID!!!] Every been frustrated by a country blocked website or video? Why do they even do that stuff? It’s stupid. We’ve featured a number of ways to get round the problem over the years, and thankfully the tools keep coming. Maybe one day the content owners will wake up, get a life and realize that the whole situation is ridiculous? Yeah and maybe pigs will perambulate across the sky.
Anyhoo, Hola is a new web browser add-on which offers free and automatic unblocking of media and content sites which hide behind these country restrictions. All you have to do is download and install the tool into your browser of choice – it’s available for Chrome, Firefox, Android, Windows and Apple platforms – and that’s it.
There are no settings to tweak, as the browser addon version is set by default to cope with the major sites such as Hulu and the rest. You can also download an operating system version of the freeware which will operate across the whole computer irrespective of browsers used.
We had problems getting Hola to work reliably with Firefox, but it definitely did the job with Chrome, although we only tried Hulu. Definitely worth bookmarking if you’re ever in the need for this kind of service.
