Nooly Micro Weather – the weather, your exact location, at that moment [Freeware]

Everyone needs to keep track of the weather, it’s just a fact of life. If you’re a farmer it’s obvious, if you’re a chef maybe not so (unless you’ve got to dash outside to grab some garlic from the market), but we all love monitoring conditions so we don’t risk encountering something nasty. OK, except for those of you in LA. But the problem is most weather services only give broad sweep forecasts over long periods.

Enter Nooly Micro Weather, an ambitious new free app for Android and iPhone, which promises to predict the weather in your location for every 5 minutes of each day. Now, we’re not going to be too cynical here, but since the weather folk on TV have trouble predicting a day’s worth, we’re thinking this may be a touch difficult to do, but the developers seem confident that they have the solution.

The app updates itself every 5 minutes, and currently covers over 30 million locations in the US, and they say it can even predict when the rain will start and end in your local park. Sounds miraculous doesn’t it? The marketing blurb talks about ‘breakthrough algorithms‘ and ‘cutting edge technology‘ which have apparently been developed by top American and European weather scientists, so we’re reassured.

The app is free for now, while they smooth out the kinks in the ‘breakthrough algorithms‘, which suggests that you may get wetter, colder or more hailed on than you would wish while the app gets tweaked, but hey, it’s all in a good cause, right? The team are also apparently working on getting the high resolution radar data they need to roll out across the rest of the world, so we’ll let you know when it goes global.

Anyway, we love the idea, and wish them well. Now if only they could push out an update which told you what to wear as well, we’d be totally happy.
