Flirtey Flying Book Delivery Service – giving a whole new definition to air mail.

Flirtey Flying Book Delivery Service

The post office and other delivery services are about to get a little more competition when it comes to delivering textbooks as something usually seen as a toy is put to work.

The next time someone tells you to stop wasting time with your flying RC toys, tell them about the Flirtey Flying Book Delivery Service and explain that you’re simply practicing so you can take part in what will undoubtedly become a growing trend.

First, let’s get the bad news out of the way. At the moment, you can only enjoy the thrill of airborne textbook delivery if you live in Australia… and things probably won’t change until at least 2015 because the Land Down Under is the only country that allows unmanned aerial vehicles (AUVs)to be used for commercial flights.

For those lucky enough to live in the land of kangaroos and throwing shrimp on the barbie, established book-rental service Zookal has teamed up with new kid on the block Flirtey in order to add a new dimension to book delivery, using hexacopter drones to deliver books from their point of origin directly to the buyers’ smartphones.

There’s no mention on whether the service can be used if you get a burning desire to re-read The Hobbit so you might be stuck with boring ground delivery if the book isn’t education-related. Talk about having excellent incentive to study.

Cost of delivery is expected to be significantly lower than overnight or same-day post, but you know you’d totally pay at least double just to tell your friends you had your books delivered by flying drone.
