GalaRing G1 NFC Smart Ring – unlock devices and transfer information with a flick of your finger

The new NFC (near field communication) tech is slowly worming its way into our lives and devices. Right now there aren’t that many phones which come with it as standard, but it’s definitely one of those technologies which is destined to become more ubiquitous as time goes by.

The number of devices which can use NFC is also growing, although at the moment it’s mostly limited to pairing with Bluetooth speakers and stuff, but eventually we can see touch and connect using NFC being a standard feature of most mobile products.

This leather embossed titanium alloy GalaRing G1 NFC Smart Ring is therefore an interesting addition to the market. The device features two chips, one for use as an unlock dongle, which you can use to unlock your phone, computer or any other NFC enabled device which has security onboard.

The other chip is a straight data storage facility, which means you can keep digital information, such as WiFi password settings, contact information etc, all of which can be transferred from NFC ring to NFC device with the touch of your finger.

Now, producing this thing, and having people actually wear it is another matter, but we’re thinking it doesn’t look too nasty, and since it’s priced at a very reasonable $29.99, it may actually find a market. You can buy the product in different sizes to fit different fingers, and it will work with most NFC enabled phones on the market. There are also free apps available on the Google Play Android market.

  • Is the app in english? As it doesn’t look to be
I’ve also noticed that the inventor of the NFC Ring from Kickstarter has left a review on the app asking the owner to contact him. Copyright issue maybe? This looks to do exactly the same thing as his ring

    • Hmm…interesting.
