If you enjoy playing with your food in real life, then why not play with it in the world of video games? For a very limited time, you can even get your hands on a gaming accessory that will let you enjoy the smell of virtual popcorn… but you’re going to have to really like the smell of popcorn to make a play for this thing.
Pop Secret Poptopia and Pop Dongle is a one-two combo designed to take advantage of your nose. Everybody knows popcorn is one of those smells that just automatically makes a person’s mouth start watering. Even if you don’t like popcorn, you lose control and start salivating.
Poptopia is a time-killing piece of freeware that lets you feed popcorn kernels to the Almighty Mouth God (no, I’m not making that up). During the game, popcorn kernels fly through the sky, slowly changing color. Earn points by tapping the kernels and feeding the big mouth in the sky, but if you take too long, the kernels burn and the Mouth God gets upset.
As if a game that forces you to feed popcorn to some anonymous mouth wasn’t enough to get you in the mood for some buttery goodness, Pop Secret also came out with the Pop Dongle (who came up with the word ‘dongle,’ anyway). Plug the dongle into your iPhone and treat yourself to the aroma of popcorn, with the smell getting stronger as you progress further in Poptopia.
Here’s the catch: While you can download and play Poptopia any time you get the urge to feed a giant mouth in the sky, the Pop Dongle is only available until December 13… and like previously mentioned, you need to really like the smell of popcorn because you’re not actually buying the Dongle. You’re bidding on it over at eBay, and the current bid is $160.
Our advice? Bounce over to iTunes to get Poptopia and microwave some popcorn while playing the game. That way, you can taste, as well as smell, the popcorn, and you keep $160 in your pocket… and that will buy a lot of popcorn.
