Mate Dual Boot Android & Windows 10.1 Inch Tablet Computer – why compromise when you can have it all?

Up until recently your choice of tablet computers was restricted to either Android or Windows, there was no way to have both operating systems on the one device. Ah, but times change, grasshopper, and so it should be no surprise that there are new options arriving on the market.

This Mate Dual Boot Android Windows 10.1 Inch Tablet Computer features a full installation of Windows 8.1 and Android 4.2 on the same machine. It also comes with 2GB of RAM, a 32GB SSD (solid state drive), 1.6GHz Intel Bay Trail quad core processor, a 1280×800 10.1 inch capacitive touchscreen, a 3500mAh battery and HDMI out.

The device also sports Bluetooth 4.0 LE, 2 megapixel front camera (Windows only), a microSD slot supporting up to 64GB of storage, a G Sensor and compass. We’re guessing that the tablet’s performance under Windows will be somewhat slower than Android (nothing against Windows, but it’s big right?) but if you’re looking for a combination of compatibility with your work computer programs, as well as the fun stuff from the Google Play environment, then this is probably a pretty good solution.

The tablet is priced at $519.99 (or £312.60) which is probably cheaper and more convenient than buying two separate devices for the job. It will be interesting to see whether other companies decide to follow this lead and introduce more dual boot options.

  • This is an interesting idea. I wonder how it would work in real-world applications?
I’d love to see a convertible MacBook Air that dual booted into Mac OS or iOS. Apple’s too smart to canabalize themselves though.

    • A Macbook Air booting into Windows or MacOS would be even more interesting. But as you say, not gonna happen. :)
