How much did you pay for your first mobile phone? More or less than $200? More? Yep, us too. Well let’s face it, cell phone technology is pretty miraculous isn’t it? Beaming sound and vision and stuff from person to person anywhere in the world using a global network of antennas? Still science fiction peeps.
Which is why it’s more than incredible that we’re now so awash with the technology that the price for a standard cell phone, like this Kyocera Kona, has plummeted to the price of a Starbucks Chai Tea Frappechino with bits.
The thing comes with dual screens, including 2.4 inch and 1.44 inch color, a talk time of 6 hours and a standby time of several centuries. We’re betting the 2 megapixel camera takes reasonable shots too. $6.99? Unreal.
Would this work in the UK if I brought one back?
Ahh…I fear not. It’s CDMA. Here’s the radio specs – http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/kona/Cricket_Kona_Spec_Sheet.pdf
Basically –
Radios
CDMA2000(R)
1xRTT tri-band
(800, 1900 MHz, AWS*)
3G – 1x Advanced
1x MRD
Many thanks, Nigel.
My sister will be in the states in May/June and might have wanted one but I’ll warn her no to.
Regards,
Philip.
