BT Text. Well blow me down with a boa feather and dust me with custard. So British Telecom has been running a land line SMS text service for a while, eh?  You send a text message from your mobile phone and it gets delivered to a normal home phone via a computer generated voice mail service – and without surcharge. The Ferret just received one on the Ferret Fone at home and it worked well. And during December you can even send Xmas carols via SMS to any standard landline number too! Yowsers!

Users can choose between ‘Jingle Bells’, ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’ and ‘Auld Lang Syne’ by composing a short text message. The system will perform automatic text to song conversion allowing BT fixed line users to listen to the text message and carol. The synthetic speech conversion will be able to recognise and convert “Christmas text speech” into a song. To play “We wish you a Merry Christmas” insert *merryxmas# into a standard SMS message.
