The price of housing is getting ridiculous in many of the world’s major locations, which is why we have to applaud any attempt to try and even the odds for those of us too poor to pay $1 million for a two bedroom apartment above a bakery.
The shipping container house that Avante Global Trade has built in Edmonton, Canada, is made up of four sea-cans, two on the bottom, two on top, which are literally dropped into place, then fitted out with full internal accessories to provide a real home. And it doesn’t look too bad either.
The 640 square foot ‘cottage’ as they call it, contains insulation, in floor heating, drywall and all the other facilities you need, like LED lighting, tiled bathrooms and an open staircase. The team behind the house say that a larger 1200 square foot home would sell for about $100,000, depending on design. Sounds good to us.
In the meantime, we’re off to hunt for a small patch of land somewhere near a decent burger joint to make sure all civilized amenities are close at hand.
