Parajet SkyRunner – 0-60 in 4.3 secs, 115 mph top speed, 56 mpg and 10,000 foot flight ceiling

We’re completely out of flying car jokes by now, since they’re so obviously not sitting outside waiting to pick us up for the shopping trip. But even so, we’re getting close to a time when we may actually see some exotic craft in the air over our heads. They may not hold all the shopping, but they do look like fun.

This SkyRunner from Parajet is a good example. It’s basically a dune buggy which can convert to a paraglider, and while the conversion is not likely to be fast or easy, it’s an indication of what can be done with today’s modern lightweight materials.

The specs on the car are pretty impressive. With a top speed of 115mph, 0-60mph in 4.3 and 56 mpg on the ground, we’re looking at a pretty practical road going vehicle. The fact that it will also do 55 mph in the air, with a 200 mile range also means it’s decent enough for a local hop about when you need to get away from the consumer commute crush.

It’s all made possible by lightweight carbon fibre materials and a super light 1.0 liter engine, which means you shouldn’t expect to see much change back from $120,000. Time to sell the Porsche maybe?
