The Ricoh MP5125A is just one of the new raft of recordable DVD +R (and +RW) PC drives which are about to storm store shelves over the coming months. It looks as though the DVD makers have finally woken up to the fact that they need to sort out their product lines and push one consistent standard in the market.
This also seems to be a better technology than DVD -R and hopefully will kickstart the home grown DVD production market, especially since Microsoft appears to have endorsed the standard for upcoming Windows products. Oh and price shouldn’t be an issue – I saw one of these drives retailing for 267.00 on my visit to Singapore last week.
I had a chat with a Ricoh person the other day and interestingly enough he told me that most of this new crop of DVD +R drives being branded by people like HP, Philips et al were actually re-badged Ricoh units.
I’ll be taking a look at one of these drives later on, to see whether they work as advertised.
