LifeGuard Earthquake Proof Desk – just in case, y’know, the roof falls in

earthquakeproofdesk

We can’t imagine what it must be like to live in a place where you need to worry whether the floor is going to disappear from under your feet, or there’s going to be a ton of building falling on top of you at any moment. We guess you tend to forget about the possibility after a while, and just get on with things.

This LifeGuard Earthquake Proof Desk though, is a stark reminder of what can happen if you live along one of the infamous fault-lines dotting the planet. The desk is designed to support over 1 million pounds in weight, complete with a specially designed crumple zone, and emergency supplies while you presumably wait for rescue to arrive.

The company that makes the desk tested them inside a building that was being demolished, and the results seemed pretty impressive (the desk held a couple of floors apart without buckling). Unfortunately the concrete sustained severe bruising and warts. Not sure about price.
