3D printing is hands down one of the coolest recent innovations we’ve yet seen, but one of the hurdles of printing in 3D is that you have to be able to design in 3D, and if you’re the kind of person who can’t draw a straight line, working in the 3rd dimension might be a little troubling. To say the least.
The MakerBot Replicator Mini is a fun little compact 3D printer that is basically the Kodak Easy Share of 3D printing technology. The whole idea is to make 3D printing almost as easy as printing on paper. You can use the app to create your own models or you can buy pre-made models to print and paint. Just drop in the spool of colored plastic filament and watch amazed as things are created right in front of your eyes.
The downside is the hefty price tag. $1375 is a bit pricey and sure, you can get a 3D printer for far less (some are retailing under $500) but they aren’t as easy to use, as they need you to have some knowledge of 3D modeling in order to create something that doesn’t look like an unholy mess. So if you’re just looking to create a perfectly realized army of tiny Galactic droids without all the hassle, this is probably the printer you must be looking for.
