Too lazy or frantically busy to leave your browser and look for a program’s icon to open it? Well now there’s a cool Firefox add-on which can help you with that.
If you work in your browser a lot – and who doesn’t? – but occasionally want to open another program, say, Photoshop, External Application Buttons 2 is probably what you need. This is an interesting new add-on that allows you to add the shortcut icons of any external program installed on your computer to the Firefox add-on toolbar.
Once installed, locate the add-on’s icon on the top-right corner of the browser window. Click on it and select “New Button”.
Navigate to the program’s folder in your hard drive and click “Open”. The icon should appear on the top right toolbar. In this example, I added Adobe Photoshop.
You can add more by right-clicking along the edge of the buttons and selecting “New Button”. You can also delete existing buttons from here by clicking “Delete”.
There’s also additional options to change the icon size and set a prefix text for the icon label. Select “Options” from the context menu and you should get this popup box.
If you add “Shortcut to” on the prefix, then the label will read “Shortcut to x” where x is the program name.
Now that shouldn’t be to hard to set up, right?
