If you’re like me, you take your cell phone wherever you go but it always seems like the times you need it most, you don’t have any service. Say your car breaks down and you need to call a friend or you’re running late for a meeting and you’re coming from the middle of nowhere. Without fail, no service. goTenna is a product designed to keep you communicating when your mobile service fails.
goTenna works with your cell phone but it doesn’t use your provider network. Or Wi-Fi. Or anything that your phone counts on to function. It basically turns your phone into a radio. A radio that you can text through. Once goTenna is linked to your phone through Bluetooth-LE and you start the app, you can type in your message and hit send. It can be received by other devices up to 50 miles away
The downfall here is that it only works with devices that also have goTenna installed. So no, you can’t just radio anyone for help. But for groups who often venture into the great wide world, this could be difference between sharing dinner around a campfire and being lost for three days in the woods. goTenna is currently on pre-order for $149.99 and shipping in late Fall.
