Swash – the 10 minute clothing care system that promises an end to dry cleaning blues

Anyone who’s ever suffered from the deterioration of a beloved piece of clothing after a few dry cleaning sessions will probably appreciate any alternative that promises to avoid that fate. Which is why the new Swash system seems, on the face of it, such a good idea.

It’s not a cleaning system as such, it looks to be more of a ‘restoration’ machine, which will de-wrinkle, deodorize and restore shape to your garments in a single 10 to 15 minute session. The idea is you use pod cups with odor neutralizers in them, and stick your garment into the machine. By doing this you can save on dry-cleaning costs and avoid the expense of getting your stuff cleaned every time you wear them.

There’s not a lot of details on how the thing actually works, although it’s apparently based on some kind of gentle stretching and steam affair, with some rapid drying thrown in for good measure. Whatever the technical bits and bobs, it will set you back a cool $499.99 to enjoy the fresh smell on your Armani in the morning.
