Motoped – the DIY cross between a mountain bike and a moped

motoped

When is a motorbike not a motorbike? When it’s a self-build kit which lets you use standard mountain bike forks, wheels, brakes and such, and combine them with a specially developed frame which can hold a small four stroke motor. The result is something which you can cycle when it suits you, and will also give more than 100 mpg from the 50cc motor version when motoring.

The Motoped is a DIY kit which lets you build your own hybrid kit from their frame along with any old parts you have to happen lying around, as well as a suitable Honda motor. From the looks of things you can customize the end result how you like, but at the end of the day it will still be a motorized bicycle.

The base kit, excluding the motor costs $599, or you can buy a full rolling chassis which includes everything except the motor for $1999. Obviously you’re also going to need some serious motorhead building skillz to put the whole thing together, after which you’ll be the envy of your living room. Or something .
