Velopresso – the pedal powered coffee trike

Mock the hipsters all you like, but they’re definitely full of interesting at times. Such as when they’re celebrating unusual, hipster type indulgences and coming up with all sorts of weird ways to enjoy them. Like coffee for instance. Who needs a standard boring espresso machine when you can use one of these instead?

The Velopresso is a pedal powered coffee trike. Well when we say pedal powered, what we actually mean is the coffee grinder is pedal powered, but the heating of the hot stuff is actually done using LPG gas canisters. But we digress from the main story.

The idea is you can cycle this rolling barista hutch from location to location, and once there you can make espresso coffee (or latte) at the rate of around 1.5 minutes per beverage. Depending on the skill of the operator of course. As they say on the site, the emphasis is on quality, rather than speed, which is probably a good thing.

If you’re interested you can pick up one of these babies for a trifling £9,995, excluding milk and sugar. And coffee.

  • I don’t mind the trike. It’s the professionally polished Vimeo that makes them douches.
