Sometimes science gives us something that sets us pretty square inside of the uncanny valley. The True Mirror allows you to see yourself as others see you which is probably pretty strange.

There’s no reversal in the True Mirror. Things reflected in the mirror are as they really are. You see your face without the left right reversal. Think about it, you’ve never seen your face without a reversal. The whole thing sounds like a set up for a horror movie. Supposedly, it will allow you to better do your hair and apply makeup because you’ll see yourself as others see you.

The effect is created by aligning two mirrors seamlessly at a perfect 45 degree angle. The effect makes the left right reversal cease and also creates a more 3D image. Technically, I suppose you could make one of these yourself but the alignment has to be very precise for it to work. Even a hair off and you’ve got yourself a normal mirror. As cool as this seems, I can’t shake the feeling that seeing yourself unreversed would be like hearing a recording of your own voice. Strange and unnatural. The True Mirror is $200.
